The 5
Bridges of Harrisburg: A Health and Fitness Journey
Visiting the 5 Bridges of Harrisburg is an iconic part of growing up in central Pennsylvania. The bridge, which spans the Susquehanna River, has been featured in local songs and art installations and even has its own festival. But it’s not just a symbol; it’s also a great place to start your fitness journey, whether you’re training for the Tour de France or just getting in shape to run around with your kids at the park on Sunday afternoons.
Bridge 1 -
Chiropractic Care
The health profession focuses on disorders of the musculoskeletal system and their effects on general health. Its primary goal is to restore function, relieve pain, and improve the overall quality of life without surgery or drugs. Chiropractors use a wide variety of treatment techniques, including manipulation (adjustment) of joints and soft tissues with hands-on therapy, exercise, massage therapy, functional rehabilitation training (FRC), corrective/mechanical devices (prosthetics), therapeutic exercises, and physical agents such as heat, cold, water, and electricity. They also educate patients about ways to maintain or regain optimal health by developing healthy habits. Bridge 2 - Physical Therapy: Physical therapists are healthcare professionals who diagnose and treat people who have problems with movement or muscle activity. Their goal is to help you recover from an injury, reduce pain, increase your mobility, and improve your overall health. They do so by working closely with you in your healthcare team—including doctors, nurses, and other specialists—to develop an individualized plan for improving your movement skills.
Bridge 2 -
Weight Management Programs
Platinum fitness locations provide customers with access to professionally-trained weight management experts. These programs aim to help clients understand proper nutrition, add more physical activity into their daily routine, and change any unhealthy eating habits. Sometimes called nutritionists or dietitians, these experts have completed a bachelor’s degree program in one of several areas including public health, nutrition, or food science. They are required to complete an internship before receiving certification through organizations such as The American Dietetic Association (ADA). They then must pass a national exam administered by ADA. In addition to helping people lose weight, they can also help those who want to gain weight safely. Some healthcare providers recommend that underweight women should try gaining between 15 and 20 pounds; underweight men should try gaining 10 to 15 pounds. The following table lists some common nutritional disorders along with their symptoms and causes:
Bridge 3 -
Functional Movement Training
In recent years, fitness professionals have noted that to be truly fit, individuals must focus on functional movement. Functional movement training emphasizes exercises such as squats, lunges, push-ups, sit-ups, and burpees. In 2022 they will be commonplace in all gyms! If you haven’t incorporated these movements into your workouts, now is a great time to start. Remember if it looks like a baby can do it you should too! They are not just for babies...they are for adults too!!
• Squats - These exercises target multiple muscle groups including quads, hamstrings, and glutes.
Bridge 4 -
Nutrition Counseling
With 5 million cases of obesity per year in America, it’s no wonder health-conscious citizens are demanding more affordable access to nutritional counseling services. Gold’s Gym Camp Hill offers a free nutrition counseling service for its members. This 5 Bridges wellness bridge encourages cost-effective strategies that can help improve your family’s health over time. For example, instead of buying packaged meals from grocery stores or fast-food restaurants, consider purchasing fresh ingredients from local farmers' markets or even growing your own vegetables at home. For added convenience and savings, you might want to try shopping at wholesale stores like Costco where you can get big discounts on bulk purchases. And with good reason! According to Costco's website, a typical family of four could save up to $2,500 annually by shopping at warehouse clubs like ours.5 bridges Harrisburg pa gyms Harrisburg
